Le'Veon Bell injury update: Jets star leaves Bills game with hamstring injury

  • NFL Jets Bills Bills v Jets American Football

It was a Sunday to forget for Jets fans, with running back Le'Veon Bell suffering a hamstring injury in their Week 1 matchup vs. the Bills.

Bell's status to return to the game was listed as "doubtful," with fellow running back Frank Gore getting a brunt of the carries in the third quarter. Josh Adams also entered the game for New York.

Bell stumbled on a pass earlier in the game, coming up lame and grabbing his hamstring. He would later return with a heavily taped leg, but was clearly hampered by the injury.

MORE: Why Dak Prescott is playing under franchise tag without a long-term deal

Bell's hamstrings have been highlighted in recent weeks, with the veteran running back pulled from an August practice with what coach Adam Gase described as "hamstring tightness." Bell later took to Twitter to counter the head coach's claims.

The two would later clear the air, with Bell reaffirming that the situation was a case of miscommunication and that their relationship was still strong.

The marriage of Bell and the Jets has been confusing at best and a mismatch at worst, with drama following the veteran running back since signing with New York in 2019. What hasn't been up for debate is Bell's production (while running behind a poor offensive line). He had just 1,250 scrimmage yards in 2019, second-lowest total of his career.

Bell had just 14 rushing yards on six carries on Sunday, but also had two receptions for 32 yards before injuring his hamstring.

The Jets trail the Bills 24-10 in the fourth quarter.

Lions' Jamie Collins ejected after 'head-butting' official with helmet

  • NFL Lions American Football

Lions linebacker Jamie Collins made a bone-headed play in his debut with the Lions on Sunday. Literally.

Collins became the first ejection of the 2020 NFL season when he made contact with an official with the crown of his helmet. It appeared as if Collins was trying to demonstrate what Bears players were doing to him, but he could have made that point without touching the official.

MORE: Cam Newton's Patriots contract won't pay him much money even if he's the best QB in the NFL

Regardless of Collins' intent, it's always a no-no to touch an official. Collins, an eight-year NFL ve夜网论坛teran, ought to have known better.

Just something for him to wrap his head around — or rap his head against — as he sits out the remainder of the game. Still, many people questioned whether Collins should have been ejected, as he didn't actually headbutt the official and clearly had no intent of harming him.

Steelers vs. Giants score, results: Ben Roethlisberger carves up New York in NFL return

  • NFL Giants v Steelers Giants Steelers American Football

The Steelers opted not to sign or draft a replacement for Ben Roethlisberger this past offseason, banking on their 38-year-old quarterback to be healthy and effective over the next couple of years.

Roethlisberger delivered a standout performance Monday night in his 2020 debut against the Giants following an injury-riddled 2019. His three touchdown passes (with no interceptions) helped the Steelers beat New York 26-16 and allay some concerns about his level of play at his age.

Roethlisberger hadn't played in an NFL game since last September when he injured his throwing elbow.

The Giants, competing in their first game under coach Joe Judge and offensive coordinator Jason Garrett, could not consistently get Saquon Barkley free in space. The talented runner finished with just 6 yards on 15 carries, though he did rack up 60 receiving yards.

Second-year quarterback Daniel Jones threw two interceptions, including a momentum-killing pick inside the Steelers' 10. A touchdown in that situation would have given the Giants a lead heading into the fourth quarter,

Cowboys gifted a win after Falcons' inexplicable error on onside kick

  • NFL Cowboys v Falcons Cowboys Falcons

Sunday, Sept. 20, 2020. Evidently, that was the day the Falcons learned the rules of an onside kick.

Atlanta, which at halftime of Sunday's Week 2 game in Dallas had a 29-10 lead, made an inexplicable error on special teams when it failed to recover the Cowboys' o夜网论坛nside kick attempt with 1:46 to play. Instead, Dallas recovered the ball and worked the clock all the way down to 4 seconds before Greg Zuerlein sealed a 40-39 victory with a 46-yard field goal as time expired.

Multiple Falcons players could have recovered Zuerlein's onside kick, but they appeared to be waiting for the ball to cross the 45-yard line. Which is the rule for the kicking team; Dallas had to wait for the ball to travel 10 yards before it could attempt to recover the kick. The Atlanta players simply could have jumped on the ball at any point and sealed a win.

Falcons coach Dan Quinn told reporters after the game that his players have "got to go capture" the ball in that onside kick situation, claiming they were well aware of the rules.

The onside kick recovery and the game-winning field goal that followed capped an incredible comeback by Dallas, which scored 16 points in the game's final 4:57.

According to Pro Swap, Atlanta had a 99.9 percent chance to win when it was leading 39-30 with 2:33 remaining in the game. That was before Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott found wide receiver Michael Gallup for a 38-yard gain to the Falcons' 5-yard line. Prescott scored on a QB keeper a few plays later to set up the onside kick attempt.

The Falcons committed zero turnovers Sunday while racking up their 39 points. According to ESPN, NFL teams were 440-0 when scoring 39 points with 0 turnovers since 1933, when team turnovers were first tracked.

Prescott finished the game 34-of-47 passing for 450 yards, 1 touchdown and a rating of 109.4. He also scored three rushing touchdowns.

Now the Falcons are 0-2 after last week's loss to the Seahawks. Somehow, the Cowboys are now 1-1, and the win marks new coach Mike McCarthy's first victory as Dalla[......]

Inside Allegiant Stadium: Cost, capacity & more to know about Las Vegas Raiders' new home

  • NFL Raiders Saints Raiders v Saints American Football

By moving to Las Vegas, the Raiders traded a torn up field with baseball infield dirt on it for a brand new venue and fan market of their own.

The Oakland Coliseum had been perhaps NFL's worst stadium; Allegiant Stadium, where the Raiders now play, figures to be one of the best.

The Raiders debut their new home on Monday night against the Saints in front of a national TV audience, officially welcoming pro football to Las Vegas after decades of the NFL toying with the idea of expanding to Sin City. That's two major sports teams for Las Vegas in quick succession — it also recently got the NHL's Golden Knights — and two new venues.

MORE: Go Inside SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles

While the Raiders aren't expected to make the playoffs in their first year in Las Vegas, they do appear to be respectable. Quarterback Derek Carr, playing for his starting job after a couple of mediocre years, is surrounded by a rising cast of skill players who could help him shine. In Week 1, the team put up 34 points in a win over the Panthers.

For much of the past 20 years, national audiences have known the Raiders only for mishaps on and off the field. Monday night, then, is an opportunity for the franchise to score a rare win in the public eye.

Below is an in-depth guide to Allegiant Stadium and the Raiders' move from Oakland to Las Vegas:

How much did Allegiant Stadium cost to build?

Allegiant Stadium required nearly $2 billion to put together, significantly less than the $5 billion it took to finish recently opened SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.

Unlike SoFi Stadium, which was privately financed, the Raiders received financial help from the city of Las Vegas to get their new home done. About 40 percent of the cost of the Allegiant Stadium project ($750 million) reportedly came from public funds.

    How long did construction take?

Construction of Allegiant Stadium began in November 2017 and finished this summer, meaning it took a little less than three years to build.

    Allegiant Stadium capacity

Allegiant Stadium has a base capacity of 65,000 people but can expand to hold more than 70,000 for select events.

    Where is Allegiant Stadium?

Allegiant Stadium is located in Paradise, Nev., which is an unincorporated town within the Las Vegas metropolitan area.

Special features of Raiders' new stadium

Despite being an inside field, the playing surface is made out of real grass. It has a track deep underneath it, and during breaks between games it can be wheeled outside to receive direct sunlight.

What channel is Saints vs. Raiders on today? Schedule, time for 'Monday Night Football' in Week 2

  • NFL Raiders v Saints Saints Raiders

The TV channel for Monday night's game between the Saints and Raiders will be ESPN, who owns the broadcasting rights to "Monday Night Football."

Viewers will notice a big change in Week 2, however, as there is just one game. Week 1 featured a doubleheader on Monday night, which has become a tradition now on opening week. But Week 2's schedule will only feature the Saints playing the Raiders.

What makes this game special is that it'll be the first game in Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The Raiders are playing their first season in Las Vegas after moving away from Oakland. Unfortunately for the fans in Las Vegas, they'll have to wait to watch the Raiders play live.

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, fans will not be allowed at home games in Allegiant Stadium this season. So television viewers will see empty stands when they tune in to the broadcast.

As for the matchup itself, the Saints and Raiders are both coming off of Week 1 wins. The Saints ruined Tom Brady's debut for the Bucs, and the Raiders won a close one against the Panthers. Raiders running back Josh Jacobs was a star in Week 1, finishing with over 100 scrimmage yards and three touchdowns.

The Saints will feature veteran quarterback Drew Brees, who is one of the oldest players still active in the NFL. However, Brees will be without his main target Michael Thomas, who is expected to be sidelined for multiple weeks with an ankle injury.

Kyler Murray for MVP? Don't think for a 'second' he can't follow Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson

  • NFL American Football Cardinals

Patrick Mahomes won the NFL MVP award in his second season in 2018. Lamar Jackson won the NFL MVP award in his second season in 2019.

Is Kyler Murray about to keep that second-year trend rolling in 2020? The question is by no means premature after Murray's Cardinals improved to 2-0 with a 30-15 victory over Washington in Week 2.

MORE: Murray is upset with his 'Madden 21' rating

Murray is trending on Sunday just as much as those last two MVPs. He added two more rush夜网论坛ing touchdowns on quarterback draws, giving him three TDs for the season, and both runs went viral. They were part of a day in which he had eight carries for 67 yards to go along with 26-of-38 passing for 286 yards, with a TD and an interception.

While Mahomes and Jackson continue to dominate in the AFC, Murray is shining in the NFC spotlight. And, hey, Murray is the only one of those three to win the Rookie of the Year.

Murray's rushing yardage is the style part of his game. He leads all NFL quarterbacks with 21 attempts for 158 yards through two games. That's up there with Browns running back Nick Chubb, who entered Sunday as the league's rushing leader with 184 yards. Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury has done a good job to this point of not relying too much on Murray's legs, but he will be tempted more and more knowing Murray averages 7.5 yards per carry.

Murray's passing, meanwhile, will be the substance in a potential MVP run. He hit 16 of 20 attempts for 189 yards, with a TD and an INT, in the first half Sunday to help the Cardinals build a 20-0 lead.

In the third quarter, Murray led a touchdown drive that was keyed by a third-down conversion to DeAndre Hopkins for 25 yards and a fourth-down conversion to Larry Fitzgerald for 12 yards. Washington rallied in the fourth quarter to cut the margin to 27-15, but Murray led another scoring drive that put the game away. He got help on that drive from Kenyan Drake, who finished with 20 carries for 86 yards.

Arizona didn't try to run out the clock. It went for another score, which it got with a field goal with 30 seconds remaining. Kingsbury's super-aggressive approach on offense is based on increased faith in Murray.

Murray proved that his Week 1 show against the defending NFC champion 49ers — who were hit hard by injuries in Week 2 — was not a fluke. The Cardinals are one of five 2-0 teams in the NFC along with the Pa[......]

Lamar Jackson to Mark Andrews: The most important QB-TE combination in the NFL

  • NFL Ravens Patriots Patriots v Ravens American Football

Every great quarterback needs a great pass-catcher, even when that QB runs as much as Lamar Jackson. For Jackson, his most important passing-game relationship is with Baltimore's budding star at tight end, Mark Andrews.

In his third year out of Oklahoma, Andrews might not be as familiar a name to NFL fans as Travis Kelce, George Kittle, Zach Ertz or Rob Gronkowski. But on "Sunday Night Football" against Gronkowski's former team, the third-year Ravens tight end will continue to show a national audience that he deserves to be in the same conversation as the best tight ends in football.

Even more so, Andrews might already have claim to a different title. While those other top tight ends reside with great wide receivers or in run-heavy offenses, Andrews is the most important piece of Jackson's passing, making Lamar Jackson to Mark Andrews the most important quarterback-tight end combination in the NFL.

MORE: Remembering the time Lamar Jackson leaped over a defender in college

    How good is Mark Andrews?

Andrews was the rare college tight e夜网论坛nd who put up big numbers. In his junior season at Oklahoma in 2017, Andrews caught 62 passes for 958 yards. That won him the John Mackey Award as the best tight end in the country. But he fell to the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft because of concerns over his non-receiving skillset. The Ravens even picked a different tight end, Hayden Hurst out of South Carolina, in the first round before doubling down at the position with Andrews in the third.

In 2018, Andrews' rookie year, the Ravens still depended on Joe Flacco at quarterback for more than half the season before Jackson took over. At that point, Baltimore ran most of its offense through Jackson and the ground game, so Andrews finished with 34 catches and three touchdowns. As Jackson broke out in 2019, so did Andrews, catching 64 passes for 852 yards and 10 touchdowns. That endeared him to fantasy owners, but with the broader NFL discussion focusing mostly on Jackson, Andrews didn't get his full due.

It didn't help that Andrews failed to show up in two of Baltimore's highest-profile 2019 games. Against the Chiefs in Week 3, Andrews caught three passes for 15 yards. Then when the Ravens were knocked out of the playoffs by the Titans, Andrews again lacked big plays, finishing with four catches for 39 yards. He didn't score in either of those losses.

Andrews has had an up and down year in 2020 about halfway through: He's caught 26 passes for 297 yards and five touchdowns so far, with his six f[......]

What channel is Jets vs. Broncos on today? Schedule, time for 'Thursday Night Football' in Week 4

  • NFL Jets v Broncos Broncos Jets American Football

The NFL probably didn't plan on Drew Lock being injured ahead of Week 4's "Thursday Night Football," as an already shaky quarterback in Sam Darnold and the New York Jets now get to take on the Denver Broncos and some combination of Jeff Driskel and Brett Rypien at MetLife Stadium in the Meadowlands.

After the Jets have seen their point totals decline in three consecutive losses to begin the season, chatter is picking up of whether the 2021 NFL Draft will provide an opportunity for New York to move on from Darnold to someone like Trevor Lawrence, Trey Lance or Justin Fields. The Broncos had big aspirations for the season with a talented offense surrounding second-year QB Drew Lock, but three-straight losses and a Lock shoulder injury have Denver looking at another season picking high in the draft, as well.
